Anna Manlova Biography

She was taken from the shelter and handed it over to the family. The Russian BBC service found out how women in the Caucasus are trying to protect themselves from domestic violence. According to them, the police beat them and detained them. The main goal was the summer native of Chechnya Halimat Taramov - her Dagestan police were handed over to people in civilian clothes in cars with Chechen numbers.

In early June, Taramova escaped from her family, with the help of human rights activists and her friend, she tried to get out of the Caucasus. Welcome to Chechnya. The BBC documentary "This was the very rude, terrible force from which everyone in this apartment ran away. And to see how it hacks the door in the apartment where your cups stand, your toothbrush ... It was very scary," says the BBC, the human rights activist Svetlana Anokhina, who was in the apartment at the time of the assault.

She and other detainees were judged by an administrative article on the resistance of the police, but justified. After the assault, women have bruises on the body. What happened to Halimat Taramova? Halimat’s friend - summer Anna Manlova from St. Petersburg, who came to the Caucasus to save the Chechen girl - told reporters that during the assault they got out of the apartment through the balcony, but they were still caught.

Both first brought Makhachkala to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Leninsky district, and after several hours of conversation, police handed Taramov to people in civilian clothes, in jeeps with Chechen numbers. She resisted, screamed. I couldn’t help me - they kept me, ”Manylova recalls in an interview with the publication of Kholod. Halimat Taramova has influential relatives: she is the daughter of Ayuba Taramov, the associate of Ramzan Kadyrov and the former head of the Chechnya administration.

The girl was married for five years - she said that she wanted to get a divorce, but her parents did not support her. At home, the girl received threats and subjected to violence because of her orientation, she was deprived of communication, forbidden to communicate with her. Taramova herself said in a video recorded for the police: "I voluntarily left the house, escaping from regular beatings and threats.

I ask you not to give out my whereabouts, as this will create a threat to my life. "The appeal did not help: on Friday, the girl put on the wanted list was taken out of the apartment. In the Taramov video, it was accepted in the corner of the room in the Caucasus so that women stand in the room and replies that her rights are not violated and everything is fine with her.

The Chechen Minister for National Policy, Foreign Relations and Press Ahmed Dudaev said that Taramova supposedly had “psyche problems” - and the security forces did not abduct her, but, on the contrary, stopped an attempt to abduct the provocateurs. What is the difference between the situation of women in the Caucasus from the rest of Russia? No, guys, it differs here, and very much,-the Dagestan human rights activist and journalist Svetlana Anokhina insists in an interview with the BBC.

And here a huge number of people connect to the search for a "villain". In this - how it was, they escaped - they see a huge threat to the current order of things. ”The main difference between the Caucasian orders and Ryazan is that the society is collectivist, explains Katerina Neroznikova, the volunteer of the human rights group“ Marem ”, which provides legal and psychological assistance to the victims of violence mainly in the Caucasus.

He will tell that she feels bad in the family, it will immediately speak badly about her husband, and then about his brothers, ”she says. Go to nowhere.

Anna Manlova Biography

Large brands collect sets for Russians who have suffered from home tyrants here a woman’s behavior is not her personal business, but an indicator of family reputation. And a man in the Caucasian order is responsible for a woman before society - which is why women's behavior is tightly controlled. They fear for reputation: suddenly it is engaged in something reprehensible. "Formally, the same Russian laws act in the Caucasus as in other regions - but the fact is that not only they determine the way of life.

Irina Kosterina notes that in addition to Russian laws, Islamic ethics plays an important role - the laws of Sharia, and the so -called" usual right ", that is, an unwritten set of rules based on traditions. All these rules are mixed with each other, the Dagestan human rights activist Svetlana Anokhin conducts an analogy with a magician who takes out the right law or custom from the hat, therefore, the law enforcement in the Caucasus, in principle, differs from the rest of the country - including the rights of women.

The court leaves children with their mother. It was she who rented a shelter’s apartment, from which Halimat Taramov was taken. The author of the photo, Getty Images itself is a divorce - if a woman initiates it - is also complicated. Nobody will let her live alone. If she divorced, she must return to her father’s house. And parents often do not accept her back, ”explains Svetlana Anokhina. As a result, family, friendships and customs are more important than laws - and situations are possible, as with Halimat Taramova.

As Neroznikova said, earlier Marem more than once helped victims of domestic violence to achieve exception from the search base. This procedure is, in fact, a woman’s message to the police that she did not disappear, but left of her own free will, and it is not necessary to look for her, even if relatives consider her the missing. However, in the case of Halimat Taramova, this procedure did not work.

A few hours before the assault, a policeman came to the shelter’s apartment, the volunteers say “Morem”. He calmly talked with the Halimat in the kitchen, she explained that he did not want her relatives to find her, and there were no complaints about her. According to Svetlana Anokhina, he directly promised help and protection. Nevertheless, a few hours later numerous security forces entered the apartment.

Svetlana Anokhina says that, together with the police, Father Halimat burst out there - that is, she concludes, for some reason she was allowed a civil person to participate in the operation with the security forces. How is it in general? Is there any organizations that protect women in the Caucasus? To protect a woman from her own family means to go against traditional foundations in the Caucasus.

So, it is very difficult for a woman to find those who support her, and not the adopted order of things. And these beautiful men retreated. They are fearless in the struggle with a powerless lawlessness, but they do not go against such forces as the right of a father or husband to a woman, ”the BBC Svetlana Anokhina admitted. So only women protect women in the Caucasus. And they can be counted on the fingers.

From which Halimat Taramova was taken away, many of them hide their names, since it was otherwise. Relatives would prevent them from engaging in public work. The publication is dedicated to the position of women in the North Caucasus, another participant - Maryam Aliyev, author of Instagram -blog "Diary of Goryanka" and several books - in particular, with the stories of girls about the sexualized violence experienced.

Recently, Aliyeva appeared in the maniho number at Eurovision - among hundreds of women who sang along the singer on the screen. On the Internet, she was branded for "liberality", "religious exploration" and for singing, being a Muslim. Or the Dagestan public organization "Mother and Child". There are social hotels for women. But in order to get a shelter in all these places, at least documents are needed.

To move to safer large cities of Russia, also money. It is often not difficult to work either for charity and charity organizations to work and collect funds for their work. But even with money, women are powerless without family support. In the most conservative republics - Chechnya and Ingushetia - to single women often simply do not rent an apartment, because it is believed that a woman should not live alone.

Katerina Neroznikova explains that the apartment that she rented for Marem is not a specially equipped shelter and not a shelter, but just a place where those who have nowhere to go could wait. For almost a year of work, 10 people passed through the shelter, not counting children. But much greater number of volunteers helped a free psychologist, lawyer or just advice: how to restore documents, where to go, how to make sure that the police do not look for you.

What will happen to the Halimat further? Immediately after Halimat Taramov was taken away, the Russian LGBT network applied to the ECHR according to Rules 39 - this rule is used in emergency cases to achieve a quick reaction of the European court to injustice. It was according to the rule of 39 this year that the ECHR demanded the release of Navalny shortly after his arrest, and in the year, journalist Ali Feruz, when he was threatened with deportation to Uzbekistan there was tortured a man there.

The European Court asked Russia questions and allocated 10 days to answers. The ECHR is interested in whether Taramov was delayed on what grounds, whether the lawyer was admitted to her, whether Taramov was really taken to Chechnya, and if so, by whom - by private individuals or security officials, was detained by Taramov in Chechnya, and if yes, on what grounds. In the year, publications on mass detentions and torture of gays appeared, the New Gazeta reported several murders.

The authorities of Chechnya denied not only accusations of violence against gays, but the very fact of their existence in the republic. Halimat friend Anna Manilova confirmed that the girl was threatened to kill because of her sexual orientation. The film "Welcome to Chechnya" talks about the events of the year when, according to human rights activists, the Chechen security officials were delayed and tortured for several weeks of LGBT community, mainly men.
