Biography with Polonsky


Yakov Petrovich Polonsky, poet. Born December 6 in Ryazan in a poor noble family. He studied at the Ryazan gymnasium, after which he entered the law faculty of Moscow University. In his student years, he begins to write and publish his poems in “Domestic Notes”, “Moskvityanin” and in the student almanac “Underground Keys” is friends with A. Grigoryev, A. Fet, P.

Chaadaev, T. Granovsky, I. in the Polonsky Gamma poems, which attracted the attention of critics and readers. After graduating from the university, he lived in Odessa.

Biography with Polonsky

There he published a second collection of “Poems of the Year”. He moves to Tiflis to Polonsky, enters the office and at the same time works as an assistant editor of the newspaper Transcaucasian Bulletin. While in Georgia, Polonsky turns to the prose of the article and essays on ethnography, publishing them in the newspaper. Georgia inspired him to create a singer in the books of poetry, in the historical play “Daredzhan Imeretinskaya”.

He lived with Polonsky in St. Petersburg, from time to time traveling abroad. Collections of the poet’s poems were kindly met by various critics. B was one of the editors of the magazine "Russian Word". In the socio-literary struggle, the Polonsky did not take part on the side of any of the camps. He defended the poetry of “love”, contrasting it with the poetry of “hatred” “for a few”,; “The poet-citizen”, although he recognized the impossibility of love “without pain” and life outside the problems of modernity “one of the tired”, during these years his poetry was sharply criticized by radical democrats.

Turgenev and N. Strakhov defended from attacks the distinctive talent of Polonsky, emphasizing his "worship of all beautiful and high, serving truth, good and beauty, love of freedom and hatred of violence." In Polonsky was a very popular poet. In these years, he returned to the topics of his early lyrics. A variety of writers, artists, scientists are united around it. He is very attentive to the development of the work of Nadson and Fofanov.

The collection “at sunset”, “Evening ringing”, imbued with motives of sorrow and death, thoughts about the fleetingness of human happiness. From and Polonsky, he served in the Committee of Foreign Censorship, in the Council of the Main Directorate for Press Affairs, which gave him funds for existence. Yakov Polonsky died on October 18 in St. Petersburg. He was buried in Ryazan.
